Accessibility
Built to be usable by everyone.
This statement explains how accessible selfreadrise.com is, how we test it, and what we know still falls short.
Conformance status
We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA. The site is currently partially conformant: most of it meets that standard, but some parts do not yet fully conform, and those are listed below.
This assessment was carried out by us, not by an independent auditor, and it has not been verified with real assistive-technology users. We would rather say that plainly than imply a level of assurance we have not earned.
What we have done
- When we measured every page on 1 August 2026, text met the 4.5:1 contrast minimum (3:1 for large text), checked by computing the composited colour behind every text element rather than eyeballing it.
- The keyboard focus indicator is a 3px outline; on 1 August 2026 it met the 3:1 non-text contrast minimum against every background then used on the site.
- Every interactive control is a real
buttonora, reachable and operable by keyboard, with a visible focus state. - Interactive components carry correct roles and state — the FAQ uses
aria-expanded, and the idea demo announces changes through live regions. - When we measured on 1 August 2026, pointer targets met the 24×24 CSS pixel minimum, or were spaced far enough apart to qualify for the spacing exception.
- Every page has a skip link, one
h1, a logical heading order with no skipped levels, and landmark regions. - Images carry meaningful alternative text, and decorative graphics are hidden from assistive technology.
- All motion — including the scrolling category strip — stops when your system is set to reduce motion, and the category strip also pauses on tap or hover.
- Each page declares its language, and the Romanian pages are marked
lang="ro"so screen readers use the right pronunciation.
Known limitations
These are the things we know are not right yet.
Compatibility and technical detail
Browsers
The site is built for current versions of Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Edge, on desktop and mobile. Most pages need JavaScript to display in full: many sections fade in as you scroll and stay hidden if scripts are blocked, unless your system is set to reduce motion. The interactive idea demo and the 30 book pages only work with JavaScript. This statement, the privacy policy, the terms and the download page can be read without it.
Technologies
Accessibility here relies on HTML, CSS, WAI-ARIA and JavaScript. It also depends on your browser and any assistive technology you use supporting those.
How we assessed it
Self-evaluation. On 1 August 2026 we computed contrast ratios and pointer-target geometry programmatically across every page, audited heading order, landmarks, alternative text and ARIA usage, and walked the site by keyboard. On 13 September 2026 we re-checked every page's headings, landmarks, skip link, alternative text and language.
Standard applied
Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. Where this statement says a criterion is met, we mean the AA threshold, not AAA.
